Agent-Generated Code Reaches 47% Among Developers Globally

A JetBrains survey of 15,000 professional developers found 47% of code is now fully generated by AI agents, with 38% written with some AI assistance and only 27% written manually. East Asian developers show the highest adoption rates, with 32-35% generating over 80% of code via agents, compared to 16% in Europe. Senior developers are more likely to use AI agents extensively, with 25% generating over 80% of code this way. Tool-specific adoption varies significantly, with 42% of Codex users generating most code via agents compared to 32% for Claude Code users. Language preferences also impact adoption, with Go, JavaScript and TypeScript developers averaging 54-55% agent-generated code while C/C++ developers maintain 38% manual coding rates.
