GitHub Copilot Canvases Streamline Agentic Workflows

GitHub Copilot’s canvases provide a durable, shared surface for developers and AI agents to collaborate, making workflows visible, steerable, and cost-efficient. While chat interfaces excel for intent and initial planning, they often fail to preserve context and progress as agentic workflows unfold. Canvases address this by maintaining explicit and persistent state, enabling developers to inspect, guide, and approve agent-generated work without reconstructing context from chat logs. Two practical implementations—Java Modernization Studio and Site Studio—demonstrate how canvases streamline workflows by clearly defining states, reducing coordination overhead, and improving trust at scale. This approach ensures that both humans and agents stay aligned, focusing on high-signal decisions while maintaining execution momentum.
