Grails Development Plugin Transfers to Apache Foundation

The IntelliJ IDEA plugin for Grails framework development has transferred ownership to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), joining the Apache Grails project it supports. Version 262.0.0, now available on JetBrains Marketplace under ASF vendor credentials, adds compatibility with IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2. The plugin provides Groovy Server Pages (GSP) editing tools, Grails Object Relational Mapping (GORM) integration, and framework-aware code assistance. The migration places plugin maintenance under the Apache Grails Project Management Committee (PMC), aligning its development with the framework's roadmap. Builds now release independently of IntelliJ IDEA versions, with the Grails team handling publishing directly to Marketplace. Existing users require no migration - updates will continue seamlessly under the same plugin ID, though IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2 no longer bundles it by default. JetBrains confirmed continued collaboration on platform API changes while shifting focus to core IDE development. The ASF already oversees the main Grails framework, positioning its team to synchronize tooling updates with framework evolution. Community contributions proceed through the new GitHub repository, where the PMC manages pull requests and releases.
