JetBrains Brings OpenTelemetry to More IDEs
JetBrains has introduced the OpenTelemetry plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, GoLand, PyCharm, and WebStorm as part of the 2026.2 release. The plugin, previously exclusive to JetBrains Rider, now supports these additional IDEs without compromising functionality in Rider. It enables developers to inspect logs, metrics, traces, and service maps directly within their IDE, eliminating the need for a separate local observability backend. Key features include error tracing, service dependency visualization, and runtime behavior inspection during application development and testing. The plugin complements existing IDE tools like debuggers and profilers, offering a more integrated development experience. This expansion allows developers to identify and resolve issues earlier in the development cycle, improving application reliability before deployment.
